The League of Agricultural and Equine Centers (The League) recently announced the facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, earned the honor for its commitment to the horse industry and excellence in the management and operation of an equestrian facility.

Host to numerous major events in the Western performance horse industry, the South Point includes a hotel, barn area, three climate-controlled arenas in one building.

Jennifer Bexley, board chairman of The League, said the South Point exemplifies the values by which the Facility of the Year honor is judged: operational excellence, safety and security and service to the community. The League, which supports and promotes management of personnel and maintenance at agricultural and equestrian facilities, presented the award to Steve Stallworth, general manager of the South Point Arena & Equestrian Center.

“[South Point owners] Michael and Paula Gaughan had a very clear vision for this property since the beginning, and it was to create a one-of-a-kind facility that would not only help expand the equestrian industry but also serve as a home away from home for the participants and their animals,” Stallworth said.

The South Point Arena and Equestrian Center is scheduled to have more than 40 weeks of equestrian events this year.

It is the site of numerous Western performance horse events, some of which include the National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Stallion Stakes, as well as the National Stock Horse Association Futurity, the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association (PCCHA) Futurity, the PCCHA Derby and the High Roller Reining Classic. It previously was the venue for National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA)/Mercuria World Series of Cutting events, and is still host to many major American Quarter Horse Association and American Paint Horse Association shows, as well as barrel racing, rodeo and other breed-specific or discipline-specific equine events.

In addition to its event and arena space, the South Point Equestrian Center also has a vet clinic, feed store and Cinch Saloon. The South Point Arena’s horse valet, located adjacent to 1,200 climate-controlled stalls with 24-hour security monitoring, offers a way to check into the show and hotel at the same time while having unlimited access to the stables.
